Every year the last week of May and first week of June, jewelry designers, retail buyers and fashion/accessory media make their annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas!! Why? Its “Jewelry Week”, the jewelry industry’s equivalent of New York Fashion Week! Here, stores, buyers and press get first glimpses of the newest designer creations and get a feel for the hottest trends that will capture imagination for Fall, Winter and into Spring.
This year, Jewelry Week was extremely busy for me. I debuted my newest pieces to the JTV buyers, I spent time reviewing the new collections of many designers for my celebrity styling work and I reported for TV media on the hottest jewelry trends. Therefore, I’m happy to say that my JTV shows on June 12 and 13, right after “Jewelry Week” will give you an exclusive preview of the hottest jewelry and trends, many of which are not available anywhere else right now except for here at JTV!! Here are 3 very popular industry-wide trends that you’ll get to preview on Michael O’Connor for Bella Luce this month.

Antique and vintage inspirations continue to be one of the extremely strong trends, not only in clothing but in jewelry too. Whether it’s the bold geometric angles of Deco (which debuted in France just prior to WW1 and represented the luxurious glamour of the period as well as the exuberance of technological progress) or the curved and fluid lines of the graceful Edwardian period (during the first decade of the 1900’s influenced by the art and fashion of Continental Europe), this styling was evident across the collections of many designers. These styles are reminiscent of a “kinder, gentler” time and I personally love these eras for their design.
Another trend, along the “kinder, gentler” nature is being seen in the softening of lines, quite popular in on the fashion runways. Many top fashion publications have been showing more voluminous skirt styles and soft details like ruffles. When it comes of jewelry, there’s been a trend shift to softer shapes such and oval silhouettes in particular. This may have something to do with the increasing number of celebrity engagement rings that contain an oval cut center diamond or gemstone. This new ring incorporates a graceful oval center stone which gives it a stunning, bold appearance.
Jewelry with spiritual and special meanings never lose their sparkle for many of us. Already, we’ve debuted two gorgeous cross pendants and a design that’s very special for me personally, a beautiful angel wing pendant. Meaningful jewelry was seen everywhere at this year’s “Jewelry Week” and this month we will be debuting two more new spiritual pieces that many of you have been ask for; an angel wing earring and a brand new Star of David pendant.
I hope you’ll join me for my three upcoming shows: June 12 (12 noon eastern), June 13 (12a – 2a and then again at 10p EST). Each two-hour show will be jam-packed with some fun, some information and, of course, gorgeous jewelry, including many brand new styles and trends fresh from the fair! I also want to thank you for all your lovely comments and messages on my Facebook page (Michael O’Connor Style) and your wonderful feedback on Michael O’Connor for Bella Luce.
